Meet Your Team At Cansquared

Cansquared ltd, for honesty, integrity and reliability

I am Geoff Matthews and I formed Cansquared after many years working for and with other companies in this ever-developing industry of ours.

It’s now over forty years since I left school, and within two weeks had begun my financial services career with a good old ‘home service’ company called Refuge Assurance. I was a raw young lad then, but I quickly learnt that honesty, integrity and reliability were essential requirements for survival. I discovered how products worked and, more importantly, how they could match a client’s needs.

Since those halcyon days much has changed in financial services but these important fundamentals haven’t. I’ve passed my exams and since 1997 have specialised in the corporate market, but I still perform my daily duties with honesty, integrity and reliability… with a fair dollop of passion thrown in!

Working with many individuals and businesses over the years has taught me an awful lot about other people and particularly about myself. How to face and handle a group with confidence, how to stand up for what is right and how to ensure that my clients are comfortable and happy with their financial plans.

I have advised on and implemented many pension schemes with all kinds of businesses, from hairdressers to hovercraft builders, and discovered that there’s one vital ingredient needed at all times and that’s to avoid the jargon. There’s a plethora of this in this industry and much of it is totally unnecessary.

So if you want an honest, hardworking adviser who has your best interests at heart and will talk your language, then you’ve come to the right place.

A little more about me…

I’m married to Penny with four grown-up children between us and five grandchildren. My other passions are photography (I run a group in my local village), table tennis and football. When I was about thirteen, as a result of my love of Subbuteo, I decided that Norwich City would be my football team; hence the choice of colour scheme for my logo and website.

One of the things I strongly believe in is change – that’s accepting and embracing it. I think this is the biggest single reason why I’m still so passionate about the industry I work in. Equally important to me though is a ‘can do’ attitude. So many people nowadays will dissuade you from ‘going for it’ and probably only for their own benefit, but you ‘can do it’ and ‘grow with it’ if you think positively – now that’s where Cansquared came from.

If you’d like to get to know me and my company better, then please get in touch. I look forward to hearing from you.

When I say it’s my great pleasure to introduce Glenn Marlowe it really IS a great pleasure because he and I first met over 50 years ago at primary school in Doncaster!

Whilst Glenn and I hadn’t been in contact since our school days, our paths did cross briefly in 2010, although we didn’t even recognise each other at first! However, when we met up and spoke again at a school reunion in 2018, it soon became clear that him joining me at Cansquared was a really good fit for us both.

In a remarkably similar career path to mine, Glenn began his working life as a District Agent with the home service company ‘Pearl Assurance’ way back in 1978.

After nearly 23 years’ service, he decided to go self-employed as the home service role was starting to change – and move away from this type of business.

However, as he moved on he carried forward some of the old and established principles from his original groundings in the industry, such as trustworthiness, sincerity, dependability and service, as these are the prerequisites for longevity.

After many years, he decided to specialise in the Personal Protection market, for example, Life Assurance, Critical Illness, Income Protection and Accident & Sickness cover.

Like me, he’s a strong believer in jargon-free explanations of the policy features and benefits to ensure clients totally understand the advice he provides and that above everything else they are comfortable with the conclusions and decisions they have chosen.

He’s married to Lorraine, with four grown-up children between them, and as of May 2019 became a first-time granddad. His hobbies are collecting vinyl records, reading non-fiction, football, cricket and holidays. He says that he has a photograph of himself taken in 1967 wearing the colours of his favourite football team, but declines to reveal their identity! (It’s Manchester Utd!)

One of his proudest achievements – and a measure of the man – is to have built up a very loyal client base over the years, many of whom have gone on to become friends and will remain so.

Glenn says “It is a pleasure to be a part of a very professional company which practices high morals and ethics.”

Tania Blackburn is a New Zealander who arrived in the UK in 1991 and has now lived in the UK longer than she lived in NZ! Following nine years in London, she moved to the beautiful Calder Valley in 2000 with her Yorkshire husband, Nick and she says she very much prefers living in the north.

She enjoys running, going to the gym, reading, quizzes, gardening (she recently acquired an allotment) and she has been trying to learn to speak Greek for many years.

Her varied working life has included part time jobs in the local corner store and picking blueberries as a teenager.  In the UK she has worked as a Personal Assistant for the Deputy General Secretary of a trade union and as Personal Assistant and team Admin Assistant for senior managers within Lloyds Banking Group.

Tania is the person for whom Benjamin Franklin might have coined the phrase ‘if you want something done, ask a busy person’!

Having worked at Cansquared in an admin capacity since 2014, Tania has continued her development in the finance industry and has recently qualified as a Protection Adviser. Tania is able to quote for and arrange insurance policies such as Income Protection, Mortgage Protection, Life Assurance and Critical Illness cover. You can contact her at the Cansquared office or directly at tania@cansquared.co.uk or 07967 974389.

I’m delighted to introduce the latest member of the Cansquared team; my son Richard Matthews is a newcomer to financial services and hopefully an integral part of the business for many years to come.

A graduate of Lincoln University, Rich has recently passed his Financial Protection examination and is working towards further qualifications as part of his first steps in the industry.

Rich and his partner, Natasha, met and lived in Oxford before setting off on an around the world trip in 2016. They returned in 2017 and settled down in North Yorkshire to start a family. Their daughter was born in the summer of 2019 and twins (a boy and and girl) who arrived in April 2022.

As well being a family man, he has a keen interest in many sports. But he can most often be found following the highs and lows of being a Norwich City supporter, just like his dad!

Honest, professional and dependable, Rich has all the assets required to be successful in this industry. He can’t wait to help you with your protection needs.
